At GISDATA, we recognize the challenges educators face in sharing lesson plans, tools, communities, and help resources. Inspired by discussions at ESRI EdUC 2024, where the difficulty of sharing educator material was a central theme, we decided to create the GIS Educators Resource Center (GERC). This resource center is designed to be free, transparent, and open for community submissions, with top educators from numerous universities contributing.
GERC exists to foster a collaborative environment for GIS educators. We make no money from the site; our goal is purely to learn and help connect the community. While our resource, Galileo, is linked as a valuable tool for students seeking data, we do not promote or sell any other services. GERC features only material from educators and librarians, and emails are used solely for sending a monthly resource update.
Our vision for GERC is to become the go-to resource center for GIS educators, where lesson plans, tools, and community support are readily available. We believe in the power of shared knowledge and aim to build a platform where educators can easily access and contribute resources, fostering a stronger, more connected GIS education community.
